David Beckham’s mother reveals in a teaser for the Netflix documentary about the footballer that she feared her son would “lose everything” when he started dating Victoria.
The trailer, released on Tuesday, gives a glimpse of the four-part series called Beckham, which follows the star’s humble beginnings in working-class east London to become a global football star.
In the two-minute clip, which will be shown ahead of the show’s launch on October 4, Sandra, 74, talks about the start of Beckham’s romance with Victoria, 49, in 1997.

Sandra says: “We were afraid he would lose everything he had worked for because football always came first and then suddenly it wasn’t there anymore.”

Beckham and Victoria became a brand that secured lucrative contracts with clothing designers, health and fitness specialists, fashion magazines and perfume and cosmetics manufacturers.
But early in her relationship with David, Victoria said her then-manager told her to “keep it a secret.”

In one section of the newly released trailer, the former Manchester United star appeared to reveal the 2003 incident.
20 years ago, Beckham required stitches above his left eye after Ferguson accidentally hit him with a boot in the Manchester United dressing room after the Red Devils were eliminated by Arsenal in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
During the trailer’s brief focus on the incident, Beckham reenacts the moment he realizes he’s been hit in the head, saying, “And then I left like this,” while moving his hand away from his face.

Although Ferguson was known for giving players his infamous hairdryer treatment during team meetings, it later emerged that he was targeting a pile of clothes on the floor of the Old Trafford dressing room.
Looking back on the incident in 2017, Beckham said: “I had made a few mistakes during the game and he came into the dressing room and we had a few words.”
“He walked towards me and kicked a pile of clothes onto the floor. Then this shoe came out and it impressed me and then I realized how accurate it actually was!’.

Last July, Netflix confirmed that the docuseries starring the athlete was in the works after it was reported that he had signed a £16million deal with the streaming giant.
In the series, David looks back on his working-class beginnings in east London and the drive and determination that made him one of the most recognizable sportspeople of all time.
It contains a mix of never-before-seen personal archive footage from the last 40 years, as well as interviews with David, his family and friends, and key figures who have been part of his journey on and off the pitch.
Academy Award winner Fisher Stevens – who also stars as Hugo in the hit series “Succession” – is the director and executive producer alongside Oscar and Emmy Award-winning producer John Battsek.
David is producing the project with his TV company Studio 99, which was founded in 2019 in collaboration with Ventureland.
The former Manchester United player wrote in an Instagram post: “I’m delighted to confirm that I’m working with @Netflix on a documentary series about my life and career.”
“The series will feature unseen archives, untold stories, and interviews with the people who have been part of my journey.”
“The series is directed and produced by Oscar winners @fisherstevens and John Battsek. Watch this space… @studio99.’
He was reportedly inspired by the Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance, which began streaming on the platform in 2020.
