NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — At least 20 people were arrested Tuesday during a climate change protest outside the Bank of America.
According to police, 11 women and nine men have been charged with civil disobedience and most are expected to be tried and released.
Critics say the bank is the third largest financier of fossil fuels.
On Monday, more than 100 people were arrested on Wall Street during a demonstration and protest against climate change.
In total, 114 protesters were arrested and taken into custody in Lower Manhattan. Those arrested were accused of civil disobedience.
Despite the arrests, the group is promising more activism this week during the U.N. General Assembly.
“This is our last resort,” said Alicé Nascimento of New York Communities for Change. “We’re bringing the crisis to their doorstep and this is what it looks like.”
The aim of the demonstrators is to demand an end to fossil fuel financing.
On Sunday, tens of thousands of protesters marched on the Upper East Side chanting that their futures and lives depend on the elimination of fossil fuels.
Organizers estimated 75,000 people marched Sunday.
