One of the big successes of the cinema summer, the film Oppenheimer, from director Christopher Nolan, just passed the $900 million mark at the global box office. And Quebec filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is one of the first to be happy about it.
In an interview he gave to the Associated Press on Tuesday, Villeneuve said that when he saw Oppenheimer, he knew Nolan’s new film was “a masterpiece.” But according to his own statement, the immense success of the historical drama at the box office exceeded his forecasts.
“It’s a three-hour film about people talking about nuclear physics,” said the Quebec director, surprised.

According to the Associated Press, Oppenheimer grossed more than $1.79 million from his IMAX screenings. We know that Villeneuve shot several scenes from his Dune films using an IMAX camera.
“The future of cinema is IMAX and large format,” the Quebec filmmaker recalled on the subject. The public wants to see something they can’t see at home. He wants to experience an event.

Denis Villeneuve will start the second film in the Dune saga next March.
