Stepan played the last two seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, who paid him $750,000 last year. In the 2022-2023 season, he scored five goals and six assists for 11 points in 73 games, but only managed one assist in 11 playoff duels.

The second-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2008 draft has totaled 182 goals and 515 points in 890 career regular season games. In addition to the Blueshirts and Hurricanes, he played for the Arizona Coyotes and the Ottawa Senators.
