Ukraine claims to have attacked Russian military bases on the Crimean peninsula in the Black Sea with missiles. The consequences of the attacks would be made public later, the spokesman for the military intelligence service in Kiev, Andriy Yussov, told Babel magazine today.
According to media reports, targets in the area of the Belbek and Katscha military airports were attacked. While videos in which explosions were heard and clouds of smoke were seen were distributed on social media, authorities in Crimea, annexed by Moscow since 2014, stated that all attacks were repelled.
“According to the latest information, our anti-aircraft defense repelled a rocket attack on Sevastopol,” the Moscow-appointed governor of the port city, Mikhail Razvoshayev, wrote on his Telegram channel. According to him, the thick clouds of smoke and the smell in Sevastopol Bay come from a smoke screen that was sprayed to protect against rocket attacks. It is still necessary to verify whether the rocket debris caused damage to the city.
