A ten-month ceasefire agreed by the parties also begins on this day.
The Colombian government and the FARC’s main dissident group, the Central General Staff, have reached an agreement to begin negotiations on October 8.

The dialogue will take place in the city of Tibú, in the Catatumbo region, one of the regions most affected by violence. Not only the FARC dissidents operate there, but also the National Liberation Army and other armed gangs.
A previous bilateral ceasefire reached in January was violated by dissidents in MayI murder four indigenous minors they recruited.
The negotiations, sponsored by President Gustavo Petro, aim to end six decades of armed conflict and nearly half a million deaths.
