Children’s competition in honor of Gabriel Gracia Márquez

The competition, organized by CAF – Development Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean – and the Gabo Foundation, honors 20 girls and boys aged 10 to 13 from Latin America and the Caribbean. The deadline for participation is October 21st.

Young writers must submit an unpublished story or chronicle in Spanish, Portuguese or English, among which the 20 most talented in that geographical area will be recognized.

This competition honors the legacy and love of letters of the Colombian writer and journalist Gabriel García Márquez, who in 1995 founded the foundation that now bears his name.

In addition, the aim is to promote reading through the power of imagination and the writing of good stories that, like Gabo, represent the realities of our region ethically and creatively, according to the organizers.

Prizes will be awarded that will give the winners an unforgettable experience. They will have the opportunity to take an exciting journey through Colombia, following in the footsteps of acclaimed author Gabriel García Márquez, the document says.

He added that the winners will explore the most significant places of their life and work in the Colombian Caribbean, visiting Cartagena de Indias, Barranquilla and Aracataca, their hometown. In addition, the prize covers all accommodation, meals and transport costs for the winner and an adult companion.
