Resettlement, reconstruction, opening…

The reconstruction program “is divided into four main components: the resettlement of the affected people, the reconstruction of housing and the rehabilitation of the infrastructure; the opening and upgrading of areas; the acceleration of the reduction of social deficits, especially in the mountain areas affected by the earthquake; Promoting economic activity and employment and promoting local initiatives.

The financing will come “from loans from the general state budget, contributions from local authorities and the special solidarity account to deal with the effects of the earthquake, as well as donations and international cooperation,” the statement said.

The “special solidarity account,” which receives donations from individuals as well as contributions from the public and private sectors, is endowed with 6 billion dirhams, according to the Moroccan press. The royal holding company Al-Mada, the Moroccan Central Bank and the Cherifian Phosphate Office each paid one billion dirhams, reports Le Monde.

The “Hassan II Fund” for economic and social development, named after the former king of Morocco and father of Mohammed VI, is also contributing “2 billion dirhams to finance this program,” according to the Moroccan monarchy.
