Tallest bridge in California: Teen rescued after hanging more than 700 feet in the air

The desire to film a stunt is often reserved for professionals, and it’s not for nothing, noted a 19-year-old teenager who fell while trying to do the same and was left hanging under California’s tallest bridge Monday night.

The young man became trapped under the bridge early in the evening when his equipment failed and he was unable to get onto the Foresthill Bridge footbridge, authorities said on Facebook.

He got caught on the end of the rope he was using for his stunt, which involved swinging across the American River near Sacramento.

His friend – who was there to film the action – immediately called emergency services. More than two dozen rescue workers were involved in the rescue operation. One of them was lowered with a vertical rope and then pulled back up together with the teenager.

If all goes well, the two young people will still receive a trespassing fine because climbing on the bridge structure is prohibited, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office recalled.
