Four firefighters died in a traffic accident after spending their day battling wildfires in western Canada, federal police said Wednesday.

The accident occurred very early on Tuesday in Walhachin, British Columbia, where more than 380 wildfires are still raging.

“The truck in which the four men were traveling was unable to turn and crossed to the other side of the road,” police spokesman James Grandy told AFP.

Your vehicle crashed into an oncoming tractor-trailer.

“They had finished their shift and were going home,” Mr Grandy said.

All four firefighters died on impact.

The driver of the semi-trailer was taken to hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries.”

This accident has killed eight people, seven firefighters and a helicopter pilot, since the start of Canada’s historic wildfire season.
