A tourist called the police after refusing to pay R4,700 for a crab dish. The case occurred last Tuesday (19) at the Seafood Paradise restaurant chain in Singapore. The customer, a Japanese woman, said she was not informed of the price of the meal.
Shinba, 50, told the AsiaOne portal that he was having dinner with friends and ordered a dish suggested by the waiter, chili crab. The dish is famous in the country and is made with Alaskan king crabs, calculated by weight. 100 grams costs around R$95. The dish served weighed 3.5 kilos and cost 938 Singapore dollars or R$3,300. With additional drinks and other food ordered by the group, the total cost came to 1,322 Singapore dollars, which is equivalent to R$4,700.
However, a spokesperson for the restaurant claimed that the establishment showed the group the entire animal before preparing the meal. The tourist states that she did not understand that the whole crab would be cooked just for the group and that she assumed they would only receive one portion.
“There were three bowls full of crabs and many other dishes we couldn’t finish it all,” said Shinba, who called police amid the standoff. The restaurant decided to offer a discount of R$382 and the rest of the bill was paid by credit card.
