During the Surface 2023 event, Microsoft finally announced the release date of the upcoming Windows 11 23H2 update (also known as Moment 4). Broadcast to the general public begins on September 26th. The new update brings many AI-powered features to Microsoft’s native apps on Windows 11. The Redmond Glove has notably added a unified Copilot tool for Windows 11 with Update 23H2.
Windows 11 23H2 brings Unifi Copilot to the stable channel
Among the many new features of version 23H2, Copilot (yes, it is no longer called Windows Copilot, but simply Copilot) is the most anticipated. Copilot is a native AI-powered integration that can be accessed anywhere in the operating system, not just the browser. It can be used in Office (Microsoft 365), Edge, Outlook, Teams, Bing and desktop applications, across the system. You can open Copilot by right-clicking on any interface or using your voice.
Windows touchscreen device users can use the Ink Anywhere feature and write directly into the text field with a pen. The app can understand your complex doodles. The best thing about Copilot is that it works on all your devices. It can even extract data from your smartphone and send a text message if desired. This is a very thorough integration.
Additionally, you can perform many operating system-level actions using natural language prompts. For example, you can enable DND, enable dark mode, take a screenshot, and more. In fact, Copilot completely replaces Cortana with update 23H2.
Additionally, the new cut tool now has built-in OCR technology that allows text to be seamlessly copied from screenshots. The next Windows 11 update will also include a redesigned File Explorer with more modern components like Home, Gallery View and OneDrive integration. Finally, Moment 4 natively supports archive formats such as RAR, 7Z, TAR.GZ, etc.
As for other AI-based features, you also get a new Photos app with an AI-based background blur feature. Paint recently tested support for layers, among other things. Overall, the Windows 11 23H2 update brings a lot of changes and the integration of AI into many system apps suggests that Windows 12 will be even smarter next year.
