A 44-year-old American woman was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing government benefits for the care of her son, who had cerebral palsy, in order to pay for small trips and gifts from Victoria Secret even after his death.
“[L’accusée] admitted this even though she was legally obliged to claim childcare benefit [son fils Jordan] Brooks, she used the money to pay unrelated expenses,” said a statement released Tuesday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
American Lisa Waldron, 44, was sentenced to two years in prison this week for stealing government welfare money that her disabled teenager Jordan Brooks, 17, had earmarked for human trafficking, The Mirror reported on Wednesday.
According to British media, the forty-year-old admitted that he used the money to pay for small trips to Myrtle Beach, products at Victoria Secret and meals at a restaurant.
Except during that time, the woman allegedly horribly neglected the care of her teenager, who died of malnutrition and sepsis, an infection, after losing weight from 114 pounds to just 55 pounds in eight months.
After his death in May 2021, she allegedly failed to inform authorities to continue receiving benefits until they discovered the situation in April 2022.
His two-year prison sentence – which relates only to the 11 counts of theft of government property – will be imposed alongside his other upcoming sentence for manslaughter and assault in connection with the boy’s death, according to England’s media law & crimes.
The woman must also return the $13,292.76 stolen, $7,344.70 of which will go to a fund for crime victims.
