Palestinian leader calls for justice after decades of Israeli occupation

In his speech at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the President condemned the military occupation of the neighboring country, believing that it contradicts the numerous Security Council resolutions on the issue.

Abbas accused Israel of trying to “alter the historical, geographical and demographic reality on the ground in order to maintain occupation and racial separation.”

Despite this painful reality, we still hope that the UN will implement its decisions to enforce our rights, including the return of refugees and the creation of an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem, he stressed.

“As I am here before you, the racist right-wing Israeli government continues its attacks (…), killing our people, destroying homes and property, stealing our money and resources,” he warned.

Given this situation, the President criticized the silence of the international community.

Why is Israel not subject to serious accountability and sanctions for disregarding and violating international norms, as is the case in other countries? he asked.

In this context, he condemned the restrictions imposed by that country “that deny us access to our natural resources, illegally withhold our money and continue the siege of our people in the Gaza Strip.”

Given the difficulties facing the peace process due to Israeli policies, we call for the holding of an international peace conference and call on the United Nations to protect Palestinians from systematic crimes, he said.

Abbas also questioned the policy of the United States and the European Union not to recognize the state of Palestine.

“My message to the international community is to assume its responsibilities with all courage and implement its decisions regarding the rights of Palestinians,” the President stressed.
