Bottles of the future: wine bottles made of paper instead of glass – TVA Nouvelles

Thanks to a British company launching paper wine bottles instead of glass bottles, it’s now possible to drink wine in an eco-friendly way to reduce environmental impact.

“The overall carbon footprint of a paper bottle is much lower than that of an equivalent glass bottle,” Frugalpac Chief Product Officer JP Grogan told CBS News. “We think it’s up to six times lower. »

Its paper bottle weighs five times less than a traditional glass wine bottle, which would save fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions during transportation.

The bottle is made of pre-cut recycled cardboard and contains a plastic bag inside to store the nectar.

And if some fear that the taste of the wine will change because of the packaging, that would be completely different, says Mr. Grogan.

“Some of our customers have done tests with wine, we have done tests with vodka. People couldn’t tell the difference between our products and a product stored in a control glass bottle,” he told the media.

However, there would be a small disadvantage: wine bottled in paper bottles would have a significantly shorter shelf life. Red wine can take 18 months to uncork compared to a year for white wine.

The product director has not lost hope of exporting his model to other parts of the world.

“The idea is to place the machine close to the beverage manufacturers and limit the distances,” he claimed.
