War in Ukraine, live: Kiev claims ‘senior’ Russian fleet commanders killed in Sevastopol attack

  • Ukraine claimed responsibility on Friday for a “successful attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Command” in Sevastopol.on the Crimean peninsula, a Ukrainian region annexed by Moscow since 2014. One soldier is missing and no further official report has been released.
  • Crimea has been hit by an “unprecedented” cyberattack, a Russian official announced on Friday. a few hours after the Ukrainian attack that damaged the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
  • Attacks on the city of Kremenchuk in east-central Ukraine left one person dead and 31 injuredincluding three children, Dmytro Lunin, the head of the Poltava regional military administration, announced on Telegram.
  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth 650 million Canadian dollars, or 452 million euros, on Friday during Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Ottawa. These relief efforts over three years include the delivery of about 50 armored vehicles to Kiev and the training of Ukrainian pilots in F-16 fighter jets.
  • Joe Biden told Volodymyr Zelensky that the United States would provide a small number of long-range ATACMS missiles to help Ukraine resist Russiathree U.S. officials and a congressional official told NBC News on Friday.
  • The first ships loaded with wheat leave the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk. The bulk carrier Aroyat, loaded with more than 17,000 tonnes of wheat, crossed the Black Sea towards Egypt on Friday via a “temporary humanitarian corridor”. Three more cargo ships are scheduled to load “127,000 tons of agricultural products and iron ore for China, Egypt and Spain” in the ports of Chornomorsk and Pivdenny, according to Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukrainian infrastructure minister.
  • Russian bombings of Ukrainian infrastructure resumed, disrupting water and electricity supplies. “The phase of energy terror has already begun,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Chmyhal said on Friday.
