The secret to a long, happy life is to marry a younger woman, stop eating between meals – and wear trainers, 90-year-old Sir Michael Caine has revealed.

In an interview with The Mail in You Magazine on Sunday, Sir Michael says his advice for longevity is: “Younger women, don’t snack and wear trainers all the time – and you have to be careful not to fall.”

He married model Shakira Baksh in 1973 after seeing her in a television advertisement and tracking her down. She was 26 and he was 40.

They have a daughter Natasha and three grandchildren, which he says also help keep him young.

“You want to live forever to see what they do with their lives,” he adds.

Oscar winner Sir Michael, who has starred in more than 160 films, counts “boring” political correctness among the worst changes he has seen in his 70-year career.

He also attacks “intimacy coordinators” on modern film sets who ensure actors don’t overstep the mark when filming sex scenes, which has become the norm since the birth of the #MeToo movement.

He says, “Thank God, I’m 90 and I don’t play lovers anymore, is all I can say.” In my day, you just shot the love scene and moved on without anyone interfering. Everything has changed.’

In his latest film, The Great Escaper, Sir Michael plays a World War II veteran who sneaks out of his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary commemoration of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

He stars alongside Glenda Jackson, who died in June at age 87, shortly before the film was previewed. But Sir Michael says he had “no idea” she was unwell during filming.

“I was completely stunned when she died ten days after our private preview of the film,” he says.

“She was a total force. She didn’t seem sick or anything.’ He was recently spotted walking with a frame while on vacation in Barbados and says he “keeps falling over.”

After falling on the ice, he used a cane for five years and had to undergo spinal surgery.

His co-star in the film John Standing, 89, sympathizes and says: “It’s a bummer, suddenly you’re lying on the pavement.”
