A non-governmental organization announced on Friday, September 22, that eight bodies were found in a national park near Acapulco, Mexico.
Near the tourist town of Acapulco in Mexico, eight dead people were discovered in El Veladero National Park, a huge nature reserve, according to an NGO.
“Eight bodies were brought down from the mountain,” Socorro Gil, president of the organization Memory, Truth and Justice, said during a news conference. These bodies were found between Monday September 18th and Thursday September 21st, three weeks after the disappearance of seven people abducted from a rehabilitation center. However, no connection has been established between these two events.
Thousands are missing
The state of Guerrero, home to the most populous city of Acapulco, is teeming with criminal groups in constant battles to expand their territory. According to authorities, 4,171 people are currently missing in this state.
Due to a lack of results in police investigations, the families of the missing often begin searching the countryside with shovels and pickaxes in search of their loved ones. It is often NGOs that use anonymous information to report mass graves to the authorities.
