French trapper MHD sentenced to 12 years in prison for murder committed in Paris in 2018

French trapper Mohamed Sylla, known as MHD, very famous in France and less known in the rest of Europe, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murder of a young man in Paris in 2018. Five other people were charged in the same trial and were sentenced to prison terms of between 10 and 18 years, while three were acquitted. MHD continued to maintain his innocence throughout the trial.

The young man killed was called Loic K and was 23 years old: on the night of July 5, 2018, he was hit by a Mercedes (which, as it turned out, belonged to Sylla) and then beaten and stabbed by about ten people. According to the prosecution, it was a settlement between rival gangs. Sylla is 29 years old and became a famous trapper in 2015, making music in the Afro-trap genre, a type of hip-hop with influences from traditional African music. He was arrested in January 2019 and released a year and a half later while awaiting sentencing: his latest album is from 2021.
