Two children steal their mother’s car and are caught 200 miles away

A 10-year-old child was stopped behind the wheel of his mother’s car in northern Florida early Thursday morning after driving more than 200 miles.

The young perpetrator and his 11-year-old sister allegedly stole his own mother’s car after her electronic devices were confiscated, CNN reports.

Alachua County law enforcement officers spotted the vehicle and had to perform a “high-risk” operation to stop the vehicle.

After speaking with the children, officials determined that they were not victims of abuse and therefore allowed them to return home with their mother.

She drove three hours to pick them up and did not press charges against them.

Because the only crime the children commit is driving without a license, and since it is not possible to prosecute minors in the state of Florida, the two juvenile offenders escaped without charges.

However, the Alachua police assured in a Facebook publication that they spoke for many minutes with the mother, who was “receptive” to the authorities’ recommendations about what help she might seek to help her with her children.
