The Israeli army announced on Sunday evening that it had launched new attacks on the Gaza Strip using a drone, targeting “two military positions” belonging to the Islamist group Hamas, following violence on the border with Israel.
The Health Ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas, said that five Palestinians were injured “by Israeli bullets” during a demonstration along the border.
The early evening Israeli attacks come against a backdrop of almost daily violence since September 13 between Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces on both sides of the separation barrier between Israel and the Palestinian territory of Gaza controlled by Hamas, Israel’s Black Beast.
An armed Israeli drone attacked “two military positions of the terrorist organization Hamas” in the Bureij and Jabalya sectors, where “violent riots” occurred, the army said in a statement.
“An explosive device was thrown at soldiers from the center of Bureij,” she added near the Gaza security fence, saying she had no injuries in her ranks.
Palestinians have repeatedly demonstrated at the border after Israel closed the Erez crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, a decision that an Israeli NGO described as “collective punishment” because it affects several thousand Palestinians traveling to Israel for work.
Protesters often set tires on fire and threw rocks or Molotov cocktails toward the Israeli army, which responded with tear gas or live ammunition.
According to the Hamas Health Ministry in Gaza, six Palestinians have been killed and nearly 100 injured in border violence since September 13.
