Rod Stewart speaks to Fantástico as he prepares for his trip to Brazil
At 78, singer Rod Stewart doesn’t even think about quitting. On stage he still has the same energy that he showed during several visits to Brazil and is preparing for an unprecedented partnership with singer Ivete Sangalo.
He received the team from Fantastic in the United States and spoke about his relationship with Brazil and Brazilian music.
“The Brazilian crowd is always wonderful. I’m even entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest audience at a free show. I think it was almost 5 million people. The most impressive thing is that everyone sings in English. “This doesn’t happen anywhere else,” reveals the artist.
The show mentioned by the British singer took place on the famous Copacabana New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro in 1994. However, before that he took part in the historic Rock in Rio in 1985. In total he made five visits here.
This time there will be two presentations in Brazil: one in Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, and another in the capital of São Paulo, where he will share the stage with Ivete Sangalo. For the FantasticRod Stewart reveals which songs the two will sing.
“We’ll be duets with ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?’ do, which as everyone knows comes from my time in Brazil, and ‘Sailing’. It will be the beginning of a great friendship and the return of many memories. They are songs that I have been singing for Brazilians for more than 20 years and it will be very exciting because I don’t know if I will return to Brazil after this, you know? I’m not getting any younger. So “I want to enjoy every moment of this experience,” he says.
Rod Stewart also spoke about his long career and the experience of seeing an audience of people of all ages.
“My audience is getting younger. It’s wonderful,” he says.
When asked what the secret is to staying happy after so many years on tour, he quickly answers: “A lot of wine and sex.”
“At one point I thought about quitting, but I changed my mind. I love what I do. There are 10,000 to 15,000 people out there and I make sure everyone goes home happy. Everyone smiles. It’s the best job in the world,” he says the singer.
