Italian actress and singer Sophia Loren, 89, was hospitalized after a fall in Geneva, Switzerland, where she lives, and suffered broken bones. She had to have surgery but is doing well.

The news was confirmed by the restaurant chain named after Sophia in Italy via social media.

“Today, Ms. Loren suffered hip fractures in a fall at her home in Geneva. After a successful operation, she now has to undergo a short recovery period, followed by a rehabilitation process,” says the post from Sophia Loren’s restaurant chain.

According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, citing sources, it is said that the Italian suffered several fractures, including her hip and femur, when she fell in the bathroom of her home over the weekend.

The opening of a new section of the restaurant named after the celebrity is scheduled for this Tuesday (25) in Bari, southern Italy. This is the third unit of the chain, which operates other restaurants in Florence and Milan.

Sophia’s presence was expected for the opening of the new space, but it will not take place due to the incident.

“The entire Sophia Loren Restaurant team takes this opportunity to wish you a speedy recovery,” the chain said on Instagram.

Sophia has been an actress since the 1950s and won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1962 for her performance in the film Two Women Record seven wins at the David di Donatello Awardthe most important in Italian cinema.
