After a feint and a long history in the world of cinema, Michael Caine announced his retirement. As if the situation was clear to everyone, the British actor was forceful when it came to making his decision public: “I’m 90 damn years old and can’t walk properly anymore. “It’s a kind of retreat.” He explained this in an interview he gave to The Telegraph newspaper.
This isn’t the first time Caine has spoken about the end of his career. although it definitely seems. In 2021, the perennial supporting actor surprised everyone by saying that his role in director Lina Roessler’s comedy “Best Sellers” could be his last appearance in a film. If Caine is determined not to film again, his final film will be The Great Escaper, which hits theaters in October. “I really enjoyed doing it,” Caine said of his last big project. “I loved the character of Bernie. I thought it was incredible and it was also very well written,” he explained about the film. “With Covid and all that, I hadn’t made a film in three years and thought I was done. And suddenly I did it and had a wonderful time,” he added.
For Caine, it was hard work to commit to taking on the role of the film’s protagonist. However, he was proud of making the commitment and revealed how he managed to pull off some of the most strenuous shots. “They gave me a very good stick and I was able to shoot the scenes that needed it. “I would only do them once and then I would fall,” he joked. But just one shot and that’s it. Forget it”.

At that moment, Oliver Parker, the film’s director, intervened. “We made sure that Michael didn’t overexert himself. And we coordinated so that it moved at the pace it could. The fact that he returned to acting after not doing a film for a while and the way he did it was very special,” he stressed.

Being 90 years old is not easy. At least that’s how Caine described it. “The worst thing is that many things disappear from your life. “You can’t run, you can’t play football and little by little you realize that you’re getting closer to death,” he listed. However, he announced that he was not afraid of the last moment.
“(Death) could be imminent at age 90,” he explained. “But I’m pretty happy. I sit here and write, do my thing. I like that. “I have two children, three grandchildren and a wife… At some point they will all come to me,” he analyzed. “No one will say, ‘I’m so sorry you’re going to die; I wish you were like me and hadn’t died.’ “Everyone is going to die,” he concluded.
In a sort of final assessment, Caine was more than satisfied with what he had achieved over the course of his life. “At least I lived to fucking 90 years old. I didn’t die at nine or at 19 or at 29. I am 90 years old and have had the best possible life I could imagine. The best possible wife and the best possible family. “They may not be the family that others would say, ‘It’s the best possible family,’ but for me it is,” he concluded.
