In a series of tweets, former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown decided to compare Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada to Adolf Hitler.

Brown, who played nine seasons in Pittsburgh, was highly critical of Canada’s offensive system, which is one of the most inefficient in the league.

To express his displeasure with his former team’s offensive leader, Brown decided it would be a good idea to crudely draw a mustache on Canada’s face that resembled the Nazi leader’s. In a follow-up tweet, Brown simply wrote, “Adolf Canada.”

The timing of these tweets is strange and poorly timed for two reasons. First they came after the Steelers beat the Las Vegas Raiders 23-18 while rushing for a season-high 333 yards, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Second, these tweets were sent on Yom Kippur – the holiest day in Judaism.

Football fans on Twitter did not take kindly to the tweets and many made comments insulting the recipient.

“He needs his Twitter taken away,” one user wrote. Another said: “The CTE is flaring up again” – a reference to the disease that often occurs in the brains of football players after repeated blows to the head.

“Comparing an offensive coordinator to Hitler sounds pretty fitting for Antonio Brown,” another user said, adding, “This guy is unhinged.”

Other tweets pointed out the significance of the day, writing, “I’m posting something like this on the holiest day of the Jewish year. ‘Get help man.’

Canada’s offense was widely complained about by Steelers fans for its inefficiency and lack of penetration.

Many have called for Canada to be fired – including Brown, who has suggested hiring him as his replacement.
