A wish that has been “cooking” for some time at the Spanish shipping company Baleària is that its president Adolfo Utor intends to open, under his signature, a ferry connecting the cities of Havana and Miami.

Utor has once again shown its interest in expanding its subsidiary’s activities in the Caribbean, where, in addition to connecting Puerto Rico with the Dominican Republic, the route between Miami and Havana by ferry must also be completed.

This businessman talked about the possibility of connecting Havana, the capital of Cuba, to Miami (Florida, USA) by ferry.

“Given the special bond that exists between both cities and the more than obvious ideological divisions, it would be a historic event,” said a note from the Directorio Cubano.

Baleària has been operating in the Caribbean since 2011 with a ferry service between Fort Lauderdale (Florida, USA) and Freeport (Grand Bahama, Bahamas).

Utor had to postpone its expansion plan in the Caribbean due to the tense political situation in the United States caused by former President Donald Trump. But now he is convinced of his plan and wants to make this ferry connection a historic and business achievement.

He also said that “the hurricanes and the pandemic” also prevented the first attempt to establish this connection, but “the company’s current development allows it to resume this and other future growth projects in the Caribbean.”

In this sense, he expressed: “Before Trump became president, we had the opportunity to start the line between Miami and Havana, and that is something that could potentially be revived now under different circumstances, with Trump or without.” Trump. ”

Let us remember that this is not the first time that there has been talk of a possible ferry connection between Havana and Miami; this existed until 1959, before the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro’s seizure of power.
