DES MOINES, Iowa – The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $835 million after no one beat the immense odds to win the top prize Monday night.
The winning numbers were: 10, 12, 22, 36, 50 and 4.
After the last lottery loss, there have now been 29 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, dating back to July 19, when a player in California won $1.08 billion.
This winning streak is due to the dismal odds of winning the Powerball jackpot, which are 1 in 292.2 million. It is these very high odds that lead to such high top prizes as they cause the jackpot to increase week after week.
Three people in Florida and one person in Oregon won $1 million by matching five numbers.
The new jackpot is one of the largest in the world, second only to top prizes in the Powerball and Mega Millions games, which were all over $1 billion. The largest jackpot was a $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California in November 2022.
Although the game highlights the $835 million prize, this is for a winner, paid via an annuity over 30 years. Winners almost always choose the cash option, which is estimated to be worth $390.4 million in the next drawing on Wednesday evening.
The giant jackpot would also be subject to federal tax, and some states also tax lottery winnings.
Powerball is played in 45 states as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
