On Monday, family friends said the victims, identified as 37-year-old Azalea Rivas and her unnamed 14-year-old daughter, lived in the apartment with their poodle-terrier mix.

Police sources further told NBC 4 the dog had a bag over its head, while an NYPD statement said the 37-year-old was found face up in the living room with a cut on her face while the teen’s face was found knocked down with unspecified head injuries.
