David McCallum, Doctor Mallard from the “NCIS Anti Crime Unit” has died

Actor David McCallum, popular face of the “NCIS Crime Unit” in which he played Doctor Donald Mallard, has died. He was 90 years old. According to his son Peter, the actor died of natural causes. “He was the kindest, strongest, most patient and loving father,” he wrote in a note shared with People. “He always put family before himself. He looked forward to every opportunity to meet his grandchildren and had a unique bond with each of them,” said Peter McCallum. In his memory, his son also added: “He was a true Renaissance man: He was fascinated by science and culture and turned these passions into knowledge.” Thanks to his decades of studies for his role in NCIS, for example, he was able to become a to conduct a symphony orchestra and (if necessary) to conduct an autopsy.

The producers of the series also expressed their condolences. “For over twenty years, David McCallum has captivated audiences around the world as the wise, eccentric and sometimes enigmatic Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. But as much as his fans loved him, those who worked alongside David loved him even more. He was a scholar and a gentleman, always polite, a consummate professional and not one to miss a joke. From day one it was an honor to work with him and he never disappointed us. He was, quite simply, a legend. He was also part of the family and we will miss him greatly,” said Steven D. Binder and David North, executive producers of the series.
