So it was only natural that a few months after her death, we discovered an unreleased song by the musician in a crime series that dealt with this topic, “The Woman in the Wall”, which she had donated to the creators of the series. The Magdalena song can be heard in the series finale. The singer’s voice initially begins alone before being carried by a powerful orchestration.

“The first half of the song is absolutely heartbreaking and the second half is pure defiance. The song was stripped down to allow space for just Sinéad’s voice and then played at full strength in the second half. It’s amazing how the meaning of the song connects to this story. There’s a certain magic in putting music at the service of a moving story,” David Holmes, the late singer’s producer, tells the Guardian, adding that Sinéad O’Connor wanted to gift the song to the show’s producers.

“Sinéad approved the use of the track before filming even began and when the producers heard it they were amazed to have something so strong. We all thought the only way it could go was the end,” he continues.

Sinéad O’Conor died on July 26, 2023.
