Alouettes A spot in the playoffs this week

Alouettes: A spot in the playoffs this week?

The Montreal Alouettes returned to the joy of victory last week and this weekend experienced another joy: confirmation of their qualification for the playoffs.

To secure their spot in the postseason, the Sparrows must defeat the Ottawa Rouge et Noir on Saturday. The Saskatchewan Roughriders also have to beat the British Columbia Lions on Friday night. If both of these scenarios occur, the Ottawa club’s chances of making the playoffs would drop to zero.

The Alouettes (7-7) have already defeated the Rouge et Noir (4-10) twice and as many times in 2023. The Belle Province team won 19-12 and 25-24 against their eastern rivals.

Last Saturday, head coach Jason Maas’ men triumphed 28-11 over the Calgary Stampeders, ending a four-game losing streak.

“It was really important to end this losing streak. “The guys are on fire right now,” running back William Stanback said in postgame interviews with the Alouettes’ in-house reporter.

“We knew what we were capable of,” said Marauder Marc-Antoine Dequoy. We know we are a team that can dominate. We just had to make it happen.”

It’s over for Jamal Davis II

Two days after the win against Calgary, the Alouettes announced they had released defensive lineman Jamal Davis II.

The 28-year-old stated on his X account that he had asked the team to let him go, pointing out that it was important to know his worth.

Davis II recorded 22 tackles and three sacks in 14 games with the Als in 2023.

The American joined the team from Montreal in 2021 and returned with them in the 2022 season after participating in the Los Angeles Chargers’ training camp.
