Polish minister calls for extradition of former Nazi fighter

Polish Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he had taken steps towards the possible extradition of Jaroslaw Hunka to Poland.

“In light of the scandalous events in the Canadian Parliament, where a member of the Nazi criminal formation was honored in the presence of President Zelensky, I have taken steps towards the possible extradition of this man to Poland,” he writes on his X account.

This follows the former Nazi fighter’s controversial ovation in parliament on Friday during a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Polish minister wrote a letter to the “Institute of National Memory – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes Against the Polish Nation” asking to check whether Jaroslaw Hunka is wanted for crimes against Poles of Jewish origin.

In his letter, he states that evidence of such crimes could provide a basis for a request for extradition from Canada.
