‘The Masked Singer’ Premiere Exposes Actor Accused of Rape

This post contains spoilers for this week’s episode of The Masked Singer.

Following the Season 10 premiere of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday night, actor and comedian Anthony Anderson became the first celebrity to be unmasked after being correctly guessed by panelist Ken Jeong. Stunned, Jeong praised Anderson for the fun and laughter he has brought to the entertainment industry.

“It’s a season 10 miracle,” Jeong said.

During the season nine premiere, 97-year-old Dick Van Dyke took the stage in a gnome costume, and the first night of season eight saw the unveiling of Monty Python star Eric Idle and Star Trek’s William Shatner. However, Anderson’s revelation was a shock not only to the jury and audience, but also to himself.

“I don’t know the lyrics, so I’m not on the show,” Anderson said.

Anderson, identified as Rubber Ducky, waddled on stage with a bathtub and shower curtain attached to his costume. Out of tune and occasionally forgetting, Anderson sang along to Dexys Midnight Runners’ “Come On Eileen” as bubbles and balloons littered the stage.

When a clue was presented with a signed family photo of rubber ducks, panelist Robin Thicke guessed it was actor David Arquette. Judge Jenny McCarthy followed with the Wayans Brothers, but Ken Jeong quickly countered with Anthony Anderson, noting, “He’s not known for his stand-up acting, but he’s one of the best comedic actors around.” Panelist Nicole Scherzinger later surmised “Family Matters” actor Jaleel White before the unveiling.

Other clues included a horror movie VHS tape related to his roles in “Scary Movie 3” and “Scary Movie 4” and a photo of Leonardo DiCaprio, whom Anderson starred alongside in Martin Scorsese’s “Department.” played the main role.

“I tried stand-up comedy and realized it wasn’t for me, but now I’m a household name,” said Anderson, dressed as Rubber Ducky.

Anderson is best known for his role as Dre on the sitcom Black-ish, a four-time NAACP Image Award recipient for the role. The actor also starred in Law & Order, Barbershop: The Next Cut and Transformers.

According to The Blast, the actor was investigated in 2018 after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman the year before. The prosecutor decided not to press charges due to a lack of evidence. In 2004, an extra in the film “Hustle & Flow” accused Anderson of rape, but the charges were later dismissed.

The evening began with a moving performance of Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” by Giselle, a costumed gazelle with a floral cape. As Diver, wearing a diving helmet and covered in squid tentacles, relayed his clues, the unidentified performer said, “I was everyone’s favorite hate.” After taking the stage, Diver sang a high-pitched version of Journey’s “Any Way You Want It “. The evening concluded with performances from S’more, who sang “Slow Hands” by Niall Horan, and Cow, who sang “Bones” by Imagine Dragons.

Anderson’s unmasking wasn’t the first big surprise of the season.

During a special episode that aired on September 10, Anonymouse, a mouse in a studded jacket and tulle skirt, sang “What About Love” by Heart and was later identified as Demi Lovato. The episode also featured undisguised special guests and Masked Singer alumni Michelle Williams, Rumer Willis, Joey Fatone and Bow Wow.
