The 26-year-old is accused of the negligent murder of Charles Lafontaine last spring.
This procedure is subject to the order not to publish the evidence, so we cannot reveal details of the circumstances of the tragic events that occurred on the evening of April 13th in the defendant’s apartment on Boulevard René-Lévesque.
All we can say is that the 30-year-old victim suffered a gunshot to the face, an injury that unfortunately proved fatal.
Mohammed Amine Oumina fled the country in the hours after the tragedy.
After a stopover in Mexico he went to Spain; On June 15, he was arrested at Barcelona airport on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by the Interpol agency.
The extradition process took just over two months; He was finally returned to Quebec on August 22, where he was formally charged.
Today, prosecutors are refusing to release him, fearing that he will once again fail the justice system and also to avoid undermining public confidence in the administration of justice.
Prosecutors withdrew charges against him on September 1 of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm under the provisions of the law governing his extradition.
The defendant listened without batting an eyelid or reacting to the statement of the Sûreté du Québec police officer, who summarized the various phases of the investigation that led to his arrest.
Mohammed Amine Oumina himself and his father also testified. The two lawyers will present their arguments to Judge Benoit Gagnon tomorrow.
