We learned on Thursday morning that the investigation file has been forwarded to the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS).
Recall that at around 2 a.m., SPS patrols noticed smoke coming from the building at 66 Meadow Street, which houses the La Microdistillerie bar, La Suite restaurant and La event hall. Small black box.
Sherbrooke firefighters were urgently called to the scene.
Fortunately, the building was empty when they arrived, mentions Alexandre Groleau, head of SPCIS operations.
“We didn’t have to evacuate,” he said.
“We went into third alert, which meant five barracks were mobilized. We had 25 to 30 firefighters on scene. »
The fire was concentrated in an old kitchen at the back of the old building.
“The fire didn’t spread too far. He remained lying on the floor where he had been,” specifies Mr. Groleau.
“We were able to control it. The damage is at the back of the building. It is not a total loss. He’s still awake. »
The exact cause and extent of the damage had not yet been determined on Thursday morning.
An investigation was also launched by the fire department to find out the origin of the flames.
