CF Montreal: Not easy to win abroad

CF Montreal has its fate in its hands, but will not have an easy task until the end of the Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season.

The Bleu-Blanc-Noir are currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference and would be in the postseason when the campaign ends tomorrow morning. However, there are still four games left and nothing has been decided yet.

Two of those four duels will be played on opposing fields, including Saturday’s clash against Orlando City FC.

Away in 2023, CF Montreal won two wins and as many draws, but above all suffered 11 defeats.

“It’s always difficult playing away, no matter the team,” midfielder Bryce Duke said during a press conference Thursday.

“We have to play our game, score goals and get the three points. We want to show people what we can do and be a playoff contender.”

“You feel less comfortable abroad,” Duke added. There are fans of the other team and that’s not your area of expertise. We go to Orlando and anything is possible because we are fighting for something and there is something at stake.”

Already a successful season?

CF Montreal head coach Hernan Losada also spoke about the difficulty of playing abroad.

“Obviously what we tried away from home didn’t work,” he said of previous games. We still have two away games left, Orlando and Columbus. We have to do something different.”

Losada obviously wants his team to make the playoffs, but already seems happy with his team’s performance in 2023.

“We still have four games left in our season, which has been characterized by ups and downs. However, we believe it has been a season of rebuilding with many changes,” he said.

“Given that we are in the race for the playoffs, I say hats off to everyone who works at our club. We have to stay humble and positive.”

In their hands

Teams behind Bleu-Blanc-Noir in the Eastern standings include New York City FC (ninth) and DC United (tenth). These two teams are tied and are one point behind CF Montreal. However, they have one less game to play.

“It’s in our hands. There are four games left in our season. “We need to collect as many points as possible to feel more comfortable in the last minutes of our season,” emphasized Duke, indicating that he wanted the fate of his team to be resolved by the last duel of the season, that is, in Game against the Crew in Columbus on October 21st.
