Las Vegas police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder in the shooting of hiphop star Tupac Shakur, who died in the city nearly three decades ago, the Associated Press news agency reported on Friday (29), citing unidentified sources.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested Friday morning, although the exact charges were not immediately clear, according to the Associated Press report, which said an arraignment was expected later Friday.

Portal was unable to confirm the report or contact Davis or his legal representatives.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.

Shakur was injured in a shooting on September 7, 1996 and died in a hospital six days later at the age of 25.

Davis admitted in interviews and in his 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legend” that he was in the Cadillac where the shots were fired, the Associated Press said.

Shakur was an awardwinning rapper, activist and actor who sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Songs he was known for included “California Love” and “Keep Ya Head Up.”

In July, police said they had searched a home outside Las Vegas in connection with Shakur’s murder.
