“I discovered a passion,” the radiant singer-host-turned-actress said Friday during an interview with Le Journal, hours before the film’s presentation at the Quebec City Film Festival.

“I have never forced anything in my career, but if someone gives me a pass, I will score. […] If I only did music after twenty years, I think I would miss a little danger, something that makes me want to keep going. »

Yes, at the moment

However, acting was not on his wish list before he died. Every time she was asked if she was interested in cinema, she invariably answered no.

One day, producer Denise Robert suggested an audition at the suggestion of a mutual friend – hairdresser David D’Amours, not to mention his name.

“I said yes straight away, I have nothing to lose,” says Marie-Mai.

She took lessons from a trainer and convinced the Testament team to give her the role of Flavie, a mysterious woman who visits Rémy Girard’s character once a week to comfort him.

If Denys doesn’t say anything…

Even though we don’t see her on screen for long, her character plays a key role in the development of the story, which she appreciated.

When she confronts Sophie Lorain on her first day of filming, she admits she was looking for direction.

“I felt good about the scene, but I didn’t know if it was good or not. I looked at Denys and he didn’t say anything. The insecure person in me automatically said he was sorry. At the end of the day, Denise told me that if he doesn’t say anything, it’s because everything is fine. »

Relieved, the rest was magic, says Marie-Mai. “Denys is an exceptional director. When he shares a comment with you, it is so precise and well-delivered that you can digest it and clearly understand what you need to do. »
