Senior Chinese lawmaker attends 9th BRICS Parliamentary Forum Pueblo en linea

Peng Qinghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, attended and delivered a speech at the 9th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held from Wednesday to Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The BRICS countries have become an important force in shaping the international landscape, Peng said.

“As we face a century of change, we hope that BRICS countries will actively support President Xi Jinping’s proposed Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative to promote world peace and development,” Peng said. He also called on the legislative bodies of BRICS countries to implement the results of the 15th BRICS Summit, use the historic expansion of BRICS as an opportunity, build the BRICS Parliamentary Forum mechanism, and multi-channel exchanges and communication strengthen committees and help new members to integrate into the parliamentary cooperation of the BRICS countries as quickly as possible.

During the forum, Peng also met with senior parliamentarians from South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and Namibia.
