HIGHLIGHTS

  • Two weeks after the flood disaster, WFP has so far reached over 21,500 flood-affected people in 11 Mantikas with emergency food assistance, despite the precarious situation on the ground.

  • According to preliminary results of WFP’s rapid remote assessment in three communities, surveyed households have limited access to food due to market disruptions.

SITUATION UPDATE

Following the devastating floods of September 10, the situation in northeastern Libya remains precarious. More than 4,200 people have died, according to the World Health Organization, and over 40,000 people are still displaced, according to the International Organization for Migration. There continues to be a need for food, water, shelter, health care and logistical support for flood survivors, the homeless and the displaced.

WFP RESPONSE

Two wo needs. Each affected household will receive a food package containing rice, pasta, wheat flour, beans, sugar, tomato paste and fortified vegetable oil, as well as high-energy biscuits to meet their immediate food needs for 15 days.
