Dozens of members of the Civil and Parapublic Service Union demonstrated outside the National Assembly on Saturday afternoon. Main point of contention: The government’s proposed “inadequate” salary offers while negotiations stall.
The offer on the table is 9% over five years, the union recalls.
We already have a salary lag of 20-30% plus inflation. “We have to put a stop to the salary increases, otherwise we won’t get there,” said Patrick Audy, first vice-president of the Quebec Public and Parapublic Service Union.

Union members still do not tolerate the pay increases that provincial MPs have given themselves. This is a double standard, this is unacceptable!
We speak on behalf of the 30,000 public servants, including support staff, technicians, government inspectors and all employees in the Ministry of Transport and other government agencies. These are people who provide services to the direct population!
Strike votes will be held later in the fall or perhaps early in the winter, Mr. Audy points out. Our negotiation process is a little later than the rest of the public sector. Because we were so late in paying salaries at the last negotiation, he says.
