McDonald’s could not withstand the competition and filed for bankruptcy in the country
McDonald’s is one of the largest fast food chains in the world. With stores in various locations around the world, it dominates the global scene when it comes to quick snacks. But not all countries have a branch.
The reasons are varied, such as in Russia. When tensions with Ukraine began, the company decided to close its operations in the country and withdrew, as the network itself explained in a press release.

But there are places where McDonald’s simply ceased to exist due to bankruptcy. For example, we have Jamaica. As R7 explained, the company remained in the country for ten years, from 1995 to 2005, but was declared bankrupt because it was unable to compete with Burger King.
As the portal Record explains, one possible explanation is that the famous BK produced hamburgers larger than those of McDonald’s, which were considered small by the local population.

Who is the competitor who promises to shake the company’s structures?
Popeyes, the world’s second largest chicken fast food chain, plans to expand in Brazil through the franchise model. According to Estadão, the brand’s expansion strategy will focus on regions where Burger King restaurants are already present.

Franchisees interested in investing in the brand will receive one estimated investment of R$2.5 million for the restaurant model in the food courts of shopping centers. In addition to sales in physical locations, Popeyes has a significant presence in digital channels, with more than 40% of its sales in Brazil coming from online sales.
The Popeyes chain came to Brazil in 2018 and opened its first branch in a shopping center in the capital São Paulo. Since then, the company has grown rapidly and currently has more than 70 branches across the country and is present in states such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Bahia, Paraná and Pernambuco. Popeyes already has more than 3,000 units in use worldwide.
