Britney Spears went viral this week when she shared a video of herself dancing with knives on social media. The clip worried people that the police were called to do a wellness check on her and that the singer is now calling law enforcement.
“Is it another joke in the news about the welfare checks??? Come on, America…we’re cooler, right??? The officers came to my house and said they wouldn’t leave until they spoke to me because people were doing four-minute performances with them. I’m getting an apology,” Spears said in a post shared on Instagram.
She continued: “I’ve been bullied in my home for so long now… ENOUGH! Don’t talk about it, come on, let’s do it!!! The way my mom stays quiet when dads ask questions about her own daughter like I’m in the wrong… no, that’s an old game. People must be responsible for their actions! It’s about power for police officers.”
Spears previously clarified that the knives she used in the video were “fake” as her team rented them “from the Hand Prop Shop in LA.”
“These are not real knives. Nobody has to worry or call the police. Trying to emulate one of my favorite artists, Shakira…a performance that inspired me!!! Cheers to us bad girls who aren’t afraid to push boundaries and take risks,” she added.
Spears has been a fan of Shakira for years and appeared to be inspired by the singer after her performance at the MTV VMAs. During a medley of her greatest hits before the Video Vanguard Award ceremony, Shakira took the stage to perform and for a moment she danced on stage with knives.
Spears recently said she is preparing to release her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which comes out Oct. 24.
