On September 19, a long-distance bus in Micheldorf (district of St. Veit an der Glan) with 42 passengers left the road and overturned. A 19-year-old woman from Upper Austria was killed and six others were seriously injured. Around 20 injured people were treated in hospitals.

The bus was on its way from Berlin via Linz to Trieste, the last passengers boarded in Linz. The occupants come from several countries, according to police in Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Germany, Mexico and New Zealand – more on this in Dead and injured in serious bus accident. The driver said he bent down to pick up a bottle and lost control. The investigation is still ongoing.

Dress code dispute

The private Catholic school St. Ursula in Klagenfurt expelled a 12-year-old student from school after an argument with her mother. Her mother described the school’s dress code as “fascist” and “patriarchal behavior.” The contract was then terminated by the school. The girl did not violate the dress code – more on that in Dress code: School expels girls.

The trigger was a letter from the school to parents, in which, among other things, it was stated that, when attending school, care must be taken to wear “appropriate” clothing: no short t-shirts, no tops with straps thin, no leggings and no “too short” skirts (“no shorter than a hand’s width above the knee”). The aforementioned mother described this as “patriarchal behavior” and a “suppression of feminism,” which the school failed to comment on.

Porsche is being restored in Friesach

Porsche’s first 911 Turbo was launched 50 years ago and laid the foundation for many other models. There is an exhibition in Germany to celebrate the anniversary. The car was prepared for this purpose in a workshop in Friesach for two years.

September 3rd marks the 148th anniversary of Ferdinand Porsche’s birthday. Born in Maffersdorf (Bohemia) in 1875, Porsche was an engineer, car manufacturer and founder of the Porsche company. The first Porsche 911 Turbo was built in the 1970s, around twenty years after the death of the founder. The car in Friesach is the prototype of what was once the fastest production car in the world. Its value is now in the double-digit millions – more about this in the Porsche prototype being restored in Friesach.
