A Navy veteran once touted by Donald Trump as a #MeToo victim has been accused of murdering his girlfriend and decapitating him with an electric saw.

Joseph Roberts, 42, was arrested on September 7 following the shocking death of his girlfriend Rachel Imani Buckner.

The newly minted law student’s body was found dismembered on the coast of California’s Alameda Country, The Messenger reports.

Her remains had been wrapped in plastic with duct tape, where Robert’s DNA was allegedly discovered.

“Joseph’s DNA was on the tape that wrapped her body, which meant he knew she was dead, he knew she was dismembered,” said Detective Robert Hansen.

“He played an active role in wrapping her body and hiding it in plastic garbage bags.”

After serving time in the Navy, Roberts was on his way to becoming the first in his family to receive a college degree.

But in 2013, he was suspended from Savannah State University after being accused of verbal and sexual harassment online.

Roberts denied the allegations and further claimed he was “denied due process.”

He told his story to Betsy DeVos, Trump’s education secretary, as part of a series of listening sessions on Title IX policies on sexual harassment on college campuses.

Roberts said at the time that it meant a “big deal” to him to be able to speak out.

“Not just because of the situation, but because of the situation I was in at that stage of my recovery,” Roberts said.

“The only thing I could do was present my story. ‘I just hope and pray that she listens.’

On an episode of ABC’s Nightline, Roberts expressed his frustration at being treated in a way that he felt was unfair.

He later returned to Savannah, Georgia, where he had been studying, and spoke of the fear he had of ever leaving campus after being abruptly kicked out.

“An email came from the Office of Student Affairs. You are hereby suspended without notice and will face expulsion and arrest if you enter campus.

“A few minutes later there was a campus-wide email notification saying – my picture was almost like a mugshot: ‘If you see me – report to Public Safety immediately.'”

When he shared his experience on YouTube’s “The Exceptional Conservative Show,” he relived what it was like to be escorted off campus after two female students complained.

Roberts, who left school just three weeks before graduating, claimed the statements made about him were “complete lies”.

“They said things like they were afraid for their lives.”

He said the events almost cost him his life after it all became too much for him.

“I woke up unresponsive, surrounded by paramedics and firefighters with an empty bottle of alcohol and a bottle of pills…attempted suicide.” “That was the worst,” he said.

He eventually completed his degree online and enrolled in law school.

Roberts has not yet entered a plea in his murder case and is currently being held without bail in the Santa Rita County Jail.
