Police arrested her husband, James Michael Patrick, 48, 200 miles away in Austin on Wednesday.
Although he has been married to Chapman since July, he describes himself on his Facebook page with the phrase: “Disco…..sleeze….single af” and had his relationship status as “single.”

Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, posted a statement about Chapman on her Instagram on Friday, saying she had “only heard from her a few months ago” and pledging to help cover funeral costs.

At around 1:30 p.m., an officer radioed that she would be “taking the call in Elm,” the street where Chapman’s apartment was located.

Dispatcher says, “It’s a black woman.” Said they haven’t heard from her since Wednesday. She and her husband had a household [inaudible].’
A little more than 15 minutes later, the officer radioed with the bad news. “It will definitely be a 27,” she said, using the police rule for an attempted crime. “We’re going to need it [inaudible] Crime scene.’
An officer adds that they’re “going to need a supervisor to start over here at 1401 Elm” – and even mentions the word “murder.”
Police only officially described the case as a murder a day later and spoke of it as an “unexplained death” in their first statements to the media on Monday.
The Dallas County coroner has not yet determined the cause of death, although sources told local ABC affiliate WFAA Channel 8 that “it appeared Chapman was strangled.”

She moved there five months ago from San Francisco, where Patrick previously lived.

Chapman’s family said their relationship was “rocky” and “toxic” and had been on and off for six years. They were surprised to learn this summer that the couple had eloped without their knowledge.

Although there are many selfies of the 38-year-old, none of his wife can be seen in public.
Patrick categorized his relationship status as single on his profile, writing in his description: “Disco…..sleeze….single af.”
One of the couple’s few photos together available online is in an old profile Patrick created on the clothing site PoshMark.com.
Patrick’s criminal record includes a charge of allegedly making a “terrorist threat” in Dallas County in 1993, when he was 18 years old – but that was later dismissed.
He was also charged with theft under $500 in Travis County in 2001. This accusation was also dismissed.
According to his booking information, the University of Texas Police Department arrested him Wednesday and booked him into the Travis County Jail on $100,000 bond.
The New York Post reported Friday that he had been transferred to Dallas, but there was no record of an inmate in the Dallas County Jail system matching his description Saturday.

Chapman’s sister Crystal Marshall wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday: “I’m having a really hard time writing this.” The last few days have been absolutely the worst days of my life. My sister was recently a victim of physical abuse and her life was brutally taken away.
“I love and miss you very much, sister, and wish you wouldn’t be taken away from us so quickly.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of transporting her body to the family home in New York, as well as “funeral expenses and legal fees to ensure justice.”
As of Saturday, they had raised $25,592 of their $50,000 goal with 281 donations.
