At least 13 people died in a fire at three nightclubs in Murcia, in southern Spain. Four more people were injured, emergency services reported this Sunday on the online service X, formerly Twitter. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the death toll will continue to rise. Mayor José Ballesta declared three days of mourning. The cause of the fire initially remained unknown.

According to information, emergency services were alerted at around 6am on Sunday, after a fire broke out in one of the clubs. The flames quickly spread to other nightclubs.

Rescue teams were only able to enter the building in the Atalayas neighborhood at 10 a.m., after the fire was extinguished, he said. The injured are two men aged 41 and 45 and two women aged 22 and 25. They therefore suffered from smoke inhalation.

According to images released by emergency services, it was the “Teatre” nightclub, also known as “Fonda Milagros”. The images showed a dense space rising from the building’s roof. Rescue teams are still on duty, the city administration said in X.
