Ducks: about a month without Killorn

Forward Alex Killorn’s debut with the Anaheim Ducks will be delayed because he suffered a broken finger that will keep him sidelined for four to six weeks.

The California organization confirmed Saturday that the Nova Scotian was injured during Wednesday’s preseason game against the San Jose Sharks. He is therefore expected to miss the first month of the regular season.

The left winger, who spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, moved to the Ducks with the goal of serving as a mentor to the team’s young forwards. He signed a four-year contract for an average salary of $6.25 million.

The position vacated by Killorn will not go to Quebec’s Jacob Perreault or Nathan Gaucher, as the 2020 and 2022 first-round picks were sent to the San Diego Gulls of the American League on Saturday.

Last season he set a career high with 64 points in 82 games.

It’s a tough training camp for the Ducks and general manager Pat Verbeek, who still has to deal with restricted free agents Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale.
