The square was the site of the flag-raising ceremony, which was also attended by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Honor Guard.

At 6:10 a.m. local time, the People’s Liberation Army military band began playing the national anthem while the flag bearer raised the national flag high into the sky. The red five-star flag slowly rose in the morning light.

This year’s October 1st is not the first but the third day of an eight-day holiday in China that combines the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day.

This holiday is also special because it is the first in China post-Covid-19, when travel and consumption are expected to return to much higher levels than in the last three years.

In southern China’s Hunan Province, more than 2.7 million trips were made to more than 950 tourist attractions this Saturday, September 30.

This represented a year-on-year growth of 71.6 percent, while revenue achieved was 370 million yuan (US$50.7 million), an increase of 49.1 percent. percent more than last year, according to local authorities.

Chinese national flags are now prominently displayed everywhere: on buildings, streetlights and even vehicles, creating a “Chinese red” landscape in cities stretching from Shenzhen, a southern metropolis, to Harbin, a provincial capital in the northeast.
