Brazilian president fired two days after hip surgery

SAO PAULO, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was discharged from the Syrian-Lebanese hospital in the city of Brasilia on Sunday after his positive recovery from hip surgery he underwent last Friday he was operated on.

According to the medical bulletin released by the hospital, the discharge was approved by doctors two days earlier than planned.

Lula da Silva, 77, has been “discharged” from the hospital and will undergo “outpatient rehabilitation” under the care of his medical team, the statement said.

The Brazilian president underwent hip arthroplasty last Friday.

The approval was given by the doctors responsible for the procedure, Roberto Kalil Filho, Ana Helena Germoglio and Giancarlo Cavalli Polesello, at the Sirio Lebanés Hospital in Brasilia.

In the morning medical bulletin, doctors highlighted the president’s recovery: “He walked up and down stairs with physical therapy support.”

Lula da Silva will have to recover for several weeks and, according to the president himself, will not be able to travel or work with the assistance of a walker at the presidential residence, the Alvorada Palace.

The leader of Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT) has his first international tour scheduled for the end of November, with a trip to the United Arab Emirates and Germany.
